The power of first milk

Nature puts first things first.

Before ordinary milk comes colostrum: a brief, concentrated first milk rich in antibodies and other bioactive proteins. It gives a newborn calf vital immune protection at the very start of life.

That remarkable composition is why colostrum is studied for human gut and immune health. We source only the surplus, after the calf has received what it needs.

As much colostrum as possible is fed to the newborn calf first.
Fritz Stettler, partner farmerBauernZeitung, translated from German
  • Only surplusCollected after the calf has fed.
  • 100% Swiss originRequired by law to carry a Swiss designation.
  • Pasture-raisedCows from grazing herds.
  • 120+ partner farmersEastern Switzerland.

How it works

First milk. Precisely concentrated.

  1. A remarkable starting point

Colostrum is the first milk a cow produces after calving. Naturally rich in immunoglobulins, it has a different job and a different composition from the milk in your fridge.

  2. The protein behind the percentage

IgG stands for immunoglobulin G, the dominant antibody in bovine colostrum. It is one of the reasons first milk is so distinctive, and the component we standardise to at least 65%.

  3. Carefully concentrated

We remove fat and casein, then process at low temperature to create an IgG-rich colostrum concentrate. A clearly stated concentration, in a small daily serving.

  4. A daily ritual with a purpose

Support your gut and immune health as part of the routine that keeps you looking after yourself. Take the recommended serving consistently, alongside good food, sleep and movement.†

Look beyond the size of the scoop.

A serving weight tells you how much powder you take. The IgG percentage tells you how concentrated it is. Read both together when comparing colostrum.

Our concentrate contains at least 65% IgG. Check the nutrition panel for the serving information in your chosen format.

Quality standards

Rigorous quality standards

Colostrum is a raw material of animal origin. That puts it under Swiss food and veterinary law from the farm onward, and it is why every one of these is a requirement we meet rather than a badge we bought.

  • GMPManufacturing standard
  • HACCPFood safety system
  • Certified-organic facilityThe operation, not the product
  • Swissmedic-licensed storageRaw colostrum, Gossau SG
  • 100% Swiss originRequired by Swissness law

  • Doping-safeScreened for sport
  • Veterinary licenceCH 84667631, on the pouch

Standards apply to Swiss Health & Nutrition AG, St. Gallen, the manufacturer of this pouch. Organic certification is held by the production facility, not by this product. The product is a food supplement, not a medicine.

Before you buy anything

Five things to check before you buy any colostrum.

Take these to any product page in this category, including ours. The answers are the whole story.

  1. Does the label state an IgG percentage at all?
Ours does. 0.69 g per gram, printed on the nutrition table.
  2. Is there a guaranteed minimum, or just a typical value?
A guaranteed floor of 65%, not a typical value that can drift down.
  3. What is the percentage measured against, powder weight or protein?
Total powder weight, the stricter of the two bases.
  4. Where is it from, and can the company name the chain?
More than 120 partner farmers in eastern Switzerland, processed in our own facility in St. Gallen.
  5. What else is in the pouch?
Nothing. One ingredient, defatted and decaseinated.

We wrote this list knowing you would use it on us too.

The immune system

Why first milk belongs in the gut conversation.

Your gut lining is both a digestive surface and an immune interface. Looking after it is part of looking after your everyday health.

Colostrum supplies naturally occurring immune proteins, including IgG. Research explores how these proteins interact within the digestive tract. Our difference is a clearly stated concentration, made in Switzerland.

  • Scientific plate illustration of an IgG antibody

    The protein

IgG is an antibody and the dominant immunoglobulin in bovine colostrum. Antibodies recognise and bind specific targets. That biology makes IgG an important part of colostrum research.

  • Scientific plate illustration of the mucosal barrier

    The place

In adults, oral bovine IgG is studied mainly for its activity within the digestive tract. This is a different process from a newborn calf absorbing antibodies from its first feeds.

  • Scientific plate illustration of a colostrum droplet

    The source

First milk provides a newborn calf with vital maternal antibodies. We collect surplus Swiss colostrum after the calf has received what it needs.

  • At least 65% IgG
  • 0.69 g IgG per gram of powder
  • Both numbers printed on the pouch

Using it

How to take it, and how to start.

Every day

Two capsules daily. One in the morning on an empty stomach, one in the evening before bed. Swallow with water.

How long it takes

Colostrum is not a stimulant and it is not meant to be dramatic. The published research on bovine colostrum generally runs over eight to twelve weeks. That is why a pouch is sixty days, and why most people buy more than one.

We are not going to tell you when you will notice something, because we do not know and neither does anyone else selling this.

Colostrum. I've heard that colostrum could help my bowel history. However, I am currently unable to give a final result, as the phase was still too short. However, I feel a slight improvement in symptoms.

THAT is customer service. I had initially tested colostrum with probiotics and unfortunately did not tolerate it. (Brainfog, flatulence due to bacteria) After that, the standard colostrum was sent to me free of charge and this is TOP so far (2.5 weeks)! I ordered another one and I am absolutely amazed how Mr. Altorfer has tried to find a good solution!

Reconstituting NEM after severe infection. Your cholostrum is a valuable and successful NEM in the above-mentioned context for an 85-year-old patient; it will remain part of the daily nutritional plan in the future. Thanks for that!

Arguably wonderful. Without being able to cite medical or statistical evidence, my subjective feeling is that I enjoy a number of health benefits with Colostrum & Probioics. For my age, a quick recovery after sporting efforts, fewer “general” infectious diseases (such as flu and the like) and - especially very pleasant for me as a migraine patient - less frequent migraine attacks.

Who makes it

It started with the farmers, not the pouch.

Swiss Wow Cow began as the part of Swiss Health & Nutrition that worked with the farms. Not a brand with a supply chain attached, but a sourcing programme that later became a product. That is why we can name the steps: we were doing them before there was anything to sell.

Sven Altorfer, our founder and product developer, also wrote the book on colostrum. Literally, and in German: Kolostrum für Klugscheisser, an immunology book with an unusually rude title.

I know the farmers, the way the farms operate, and the conditions on the ground.

Questions people actually ask.

What makes this colostrum different?

Swiss origin, careful cold processing and at least 65% IgG. You can see the concentration and ingredients on the label, and choose the format that fits your routine.

Bovine colostrum has been studied for gut and immune health. Studies use different preparations and serving sizes; they do not establish a guaranteed result for this product.†

If people are taking the first milk, what do the calves drink?

The calf drinks first. A cow produces far more colostrum in the days after calving than her calf can take, and we collect only the surplus, after the newborn has had what it needs. Nothing is taken from a calf to make this.

A farmer on one of our partner farms put it plainly to the Swiss farming press: as much colostrum as possible is fed to the newborn calf first.

Adults aren't calves. Does any of this survive digestion?

This is the sharpest question in the category and it deserves a straight answer rather than a clever one. Whether an adult absorbs meaningful amounts of bovine immunoglobulins, and how much survives stomach acid, is genuinely still argued over. We are not going to tell you it is settled.

So we do not make claims about what this does inside you. We make one claim, about what is in the pouch, and we publish the measurement so you can weigh it yourself.

Why only one gram a day when other brands scoop three or four?

Because most of what is in those bigger scoops is fat and casein. We take both out, so a gram of ours is mostly immunoglobulin rather than mostly everything else.

It is a fair thing to be suspicious of, and comparing scoop sizes across brands tells you very little unless you also know what fraction of each scoop is the part you wanted.

Why does it cost what it costs?

A pouch is sixty days. It is not the cheapest colostrum and we are not going to pretend the price is an illusion.

What it pays for: more than 120 named partner farmers, collection and freezing on the farm, batch testing against a guaranteed floor rather than a typical value, and processing in our own facility. Concentrating the immunoglobulin fraction costs more per gram than leaving the fat and casein in.

The per-day figure for each pack size is printed on the pack selector above.

How long before I notice anything?

We do not know, and nobody selling colostrum honestly does. The published research generally runs over eight to twelve weeks, which is why a pouch is sixty days rather than thirty.

Anyone giving you a specific week is guessing, or selling.

Will it upset my stomach?

Some people notice something as they adjust to concentrated colostrum, and it is usually mild and short-lived.

A history of trouble with dairy is not a reason to expect more of it here. This colostrum is defatted and decaseinated, and a full serving carries under 0.05 g of lactose, a number worth weighing against your own tolerance.

Can I take it if I'm lactose intolerant?

Under 0.05 g of lactose in a full powder serving, and under 0.03 g in two capsules. Both are on the label. Weigh that against your own tolerance.

The fat and the casein are also taken out during processing, a meaningful difference from whole colostrum powders. A milk allergy is a different condition from lactose intolerance, and it is the one still worth a doctor's opinion.

What does it taste like, and how do I mix it?

It is unflavoured. It is not water-soluble, so it will not fully dissolve — stir it into cool or lukewarm water rather than a hot drink.

Pure. Precise. Swiss.

One ingredient, one number, and the measurement printed where you can check it.
